     Laser Measuring
Tapes
Probably one
of the most used tools around the house, other than the
vacuum cleaner, is the tape measure and more recently -
laser measuring tapes. It seems mothers and fathers are
forever measuring something in or around the house. Mothers
measure windows, prior to buying curtains. Fathers measure
things outside, like the fence, the dog’s kennel and so
forth. It appears without a tape measure, the human race
couldn’t survive. Since the advent of laser measuring tapes,
measuring has become so much easier and this has caused the
number of people measuring to increase. Indeed in the old
days if you wanted to keep a kid quiet, you would give him
or her a standard measuring tape and ask both of them to
measure the backyard – that’ll keep them quiet for hours.
That’s how we managed to get a few hours of peace while the
kids tried to remember the distance from the backdoor step
to the clothes line- the kids never thought to write it
down. Nowadays, if you happen to have one of the latest
laser measuring tapes and hand it to those same two kids and
ask them to measure the same yard, you’re going to have to
send out a search party to find them. They’ll be measuring
everything they can find.
The
CST Stanley 77-910 TL M100 Fatmax is reputed to be one of
the best laser measuring tapes on the market. Retailing for
around $100.00 it is supposedly able to be accurate up to
1/4 of an inch. The device is easy to use and is handy
around the house for all those miscellaneous jobs. All that
is required to operate the measure is to point and press the
button. Within seconds you’ll receive a detail measurement
of the distance between you and what you’re aiming at.
Resetting the device, will allow you find out the distance
between two different objects. The advantages to using this
type of measuring tool are clear. One can measure longer
distances without having to have someone hold their finger
on anything. The measures are faster and don’t require the
person using the device to take giant steps across the yard
trying to fathom the distance from the garage to the pool.
And finally, they are safer. Instead on balance in some
precarious position while you try to measure a window for a
curtain, you can do the measuring from the safety of the
living room floor.
I’m
not sure if carpenters have taken to this new invention or
whether they are sticking with the tried and true measuring
tape. It seems to me if these skilled trades’ people were
able to hang up their hammer in favor of a nail gun, then
surely using one of the many laser measuring tapes on the
market today, would make their construction life so much
easier.
